FILM REMAKE | 'The Beguiled' starring Farrell, Kidman & Dunst

Hollywood is at it again, remaking another classic film. The latest to join this growing list is 1971 film 'The Beguiled', which starred Clint Eastwood. Rare to get a remake right, the new version stars Colin Farrell, under the direction Sofia Coppola.

During the civil war, wounded soldier John McBurney (Farrell) is taken in by a Southern boarding school for girls. As they provide refuge and tend to his wounds, the women and girls are immediately fascinated by the handsome man, leading to jealousy and betrayal.

Joining Farrell in 'The Beguiled' is an outstanding ensemble cast, including Nicole Kidman and Kirsten Dunst. Kidman gives a standout performance as the school’s headmistress, Miss Farnsworth. Her strong presence brings strength and grace to the role, whilst appearing nurturing to her students and nursing McBurney back to health.

Farrell is perfectly cast as the male lead. He is mesmerising to watch, bringing the charms of an Irishman most females find hard to resist.

'The Beguiled' is a finely crafted picture by Coppola (‘Lost in Translation’, ‘The Virgin Suicides’) that audiences will undoubtedly find alluring. The narrative starts off slow, leading to a spellbinding film in its 94-minute run. Coppola’s direction is flawless, managing magnificent performances from her cast along with tremendous cinematography by Philippe Le Sourd, and a beautiful and lavish production design by Anne Ross.

'The Beguiled' is a sensational melodrama with excellent direction, great performances, and definitely a film worth watching.

‘The Beguiled’ is in cinemas now!
