DINO-ACTION | 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom'

Three years after the destruction of the Jurassic World theme park, Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) return to the island of Isla Nublar to save the remaining dinosaurs from a volcano that's about to erupt. They soon encounter terrifying new breeds of gigantic dinosaurs, while uncovering a conspiracy that threatens the entire planet.

'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' is the fifth film in the 'Jurassic' series, with two integral parts to the film: a volcano and a Lockwood mansion scene.

The opening of the film is one of the best since the original 'Jurassic Park' opening scene - emotional in its delivery as we see dinosaurs dying from an erupt volcano, while the Lockwood mansion is emotional for another reason: we see the dinosaurs being sold... but here we also meet the new hybrid dinosaur, adding to the suspense of the film.

In the way of special effects, the hybrid dinosaur looks incredible on screen - terrifyingly detailed in its design, though the blue dino is our standout creature of the film. Well done, Art department.

Despite this being an all-round decent film, there were some 'blips' that could have been improved before hitting the big screen, mostly in the way of plot. Namely, the audience needed to feel the anticipation and anxiety created by the hybrid through depiction of its intelligence, but instead we got a common escape scene.

Luckily, the audience is treated to a stellar soundtrack, so good each song matches each scene's tone to a tee.

'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' is one the better 'Jurassic' films, coupling horror with action, emotion with adventure. Now we're hotly anticipating the third film in the 'Jurassic World' series...

'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' is in cinemas now.
