Highly Anticipated | SDCC 2017 Funko Releases!
The guys and gals over at Funko have been hitting us left, right and centre with images of upcoming SDCC 2017 releases - we can barely keep up! So let's take a look at our 5 personal favourites so far.
5) Steve
'Stranger Things'
What we love about this release is not just the fact that he comes battered and bloody, ready to help save the day, but also... well, it's Steve! If you've seen the show, you'll know he plays a pivotal role in the series, so to see him get a well-deserved release (along with Mr. Clarke) makes this a much-welcomed addition to the collection.
4) Elliott (Maske)
'Mr. Robot'
The geniuses behind Netflix make their second appearance on this list thanks to the team behind another recent hit show, 'Mr. Robot'. What makes this a stand-out is the sculpting. We've said it before, but part of the charm of Funko Pops is the unique format and style of their figures. When they step out of that box and begin to get a little more creative, that's when they begin to shine even more; this is another perfect example of that quality. The detail in the creepy menacing glare of this very strange and haunting mask is so different to what we normally see, and you can't help but stop and stare to really appreciate just how good the sculptors and artists really are.
3) Ron Swanson
'Parks and Recreation'
As soon as you see this Pop! Vinyl, you instantly recognise Nick Offerman. We don't know how they did it, but they managed to pull off his vibe and demeanour perfectly, and moulding it into Pop form. We're sure Andy and the rest of the gang will be a big hit, but for us, it's all about Ron and that raised eyebrow.
2) Baxter Stockman
'TMNT'
If you grew up watching the 90s 'TMNT' cartoon, you'll recognise this mutant and want him in your collection immediately! There's a huge buzz around this release (no pun intended) as he's so a beloved and well-made that we can definitely see this being one of the first to sell out. From his nerdy science attire to his fly and insect-like features, Funko has hit the ball out of the park with this figure, and fans couldn't be happier.
1) Bob Ross
'The Joy of Painting'
Wow. What can be said about this figure? The strange thing is that the majority of people today would recognise this as 'the guy from that meme'...but it's Bob Ross! He created and hosted 'The Joy of Painting' from 1983 to 1994. His look and influence are so iconic that he's featured in shows from 'Family Guy' and 'Peep Show' to everything in between. It's a random release, but that just adds to part of the charm. Not only will hardcore Pop! fans want him, but he may open up the door to casual collectors, too!
Unfortunately, these releases coincide with SDCC 2017, so you may have to pay a little extra than RRP, but they will be worth it in the end.
Let us know which releases you like the best, and stay tuned to find out what Funko have up their sleeve next!
