Move over King Kong... George is on a 'RAMPAGE'!

Global icon Dwayne Johnson headlines the action adventure 'Rampage' as primatologist Davis Okoye, a man who keeps people at a distance but shares an unshakable bond with George - an extraordinarily intelligent, incredibly rare albino silverback gorilla who has been in his care since he rescued the young orphan from poachers.

Directed by Brad Peyton, the film showcases a rogue genetic experiment gone wrong, and mutates this gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered animals.

As these newly created alpha predators tear across North America destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with discredited geneticist Kate Caldwell (Naomie Harris) to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield - not only to halt a global catastrophe, but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.

'Rampage' is an enjoyable film with good CGI. It features some great one-liners as well as quality humour to keep the audience engaged, though its plot does seem rushed in parts.

Johnson's performance is notable (as usual), while Jeffrey Dean Morgan could have been utilised more, particularly as the actors' shared scenes were so enjoyable.

The three main mutates animals in this film are awesome, but in particular, George the ape is a standout. Scenes shared with his 'friend' Davis are memorable and touching to say the least.

Another mutate worth mentioning is the wolf - mysterious and scary upon its introduction. Get ready for some jump scares! Likewise, the crocodile mutate is intriguing, but we don't see much of it until the third act, and a teaser in the lead-up.

The most surprising aspect to the introduction of these animals is that the audience can't help but feel sorry for them initially - especially George; he didn't ask for this situation, and he doesn't mean to be aggressive or destroy buildings or hurt people.

The third act is incredible, if not somewhat emotional. It would have been nice to see more destruction during this finale, but the end result is an entertaining film for fans of the action adventure genre.

'Rampage' is in cinemas now.
