PODCAST | 'The Nerdist' Interviews Big Names in Entertainment Industry

‘The Nerdist’ is a show for, as the name would suggest, nerdy fans like the hosts themselves. Chris Hardwick, Jonah Ray and Matt Mira interview celebrities - usually actors, musicians or comedians for the majority of the series.

Comedy is definitely the centrepiece of the show, leading the tone for every episode no matter the guest. Just some of the big-name guests on the show include Sir Patrick Stewart (three times in fact!), David Tennant, Sarah Jessica Parker, Chris Hemsworth, Zooey Deschanel and the legendary Tom Hanks.

The special thing about this show is that it has no particular structure. Episodes play for varying lengths and cover an array of topics. There are always several episodes covering panels at the San Diego Comic Con with live audiences.

Though its ‘craziness’ can sometimes play as if lacking in structure, with some episodes dragging on and energy waning, the content of their interviews is nothing less than worthwhile.

‘The Nerdist’ hosts are lifelong friends, and fans of the people they interview, which helps the keen listener to feel as though they are represented. However, the hosts have experienced lives very different to the everyday person as they have worked in the field of ‘celebrity’ in the past, leading to a slight disconnect between host and listener.

The prior friendships between the hosts and some of their guests can be a little isolating at times. Yet, on the other hand, the interviews remain a great insight into celebrities’ lives as they certainly let down their walls in the presence of friends, forgetting they’re speaking into a microphone projecting out to a wider audience.

‘The Nerdist’ is full of chaos and is a great listen if you find in-depth celebrity interviews compelling.

The podcast can found on the show’s website, downloaded from the iTunes Store, or listened to on the official YouTube Channel.
