Daniel Day-Lewis farewells Hollywood with 'Phantom Thread'

In 2017, Daniel Day-Lewis announced his retirement from acting. The three-time Oscar winner’s decision was a shock for movie lovers and fans worldwide, but they have one last film to savour before he moves on: 'Phantom Thread'.

Set in the 1950s London fashion industry, renowned fashion designer Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) falls in love with young waitress Alma (Vicky Krieps). The couple’s relationship alternates between affection and distance until they finally learn to live with one another’s differences.

Day-Lewis leaves Hollywood on a high note, giving the best performance of his career. He and Krieps showcase remarkable character-driven performances, and a beautiful, intense chemistry in the process. A solid supporting cast including Lesley Manville as Cyril - Reynolds’ sister tops off the superb lead casting.

Writer and director Paul Thomas Anderson ('Boogie Nights', 'Magnolia') delivers a masterpiece in 'Phantom Thread', which draws its audience in from beginning to end with Day-Lewis and Krieps’ intoxicating romantic tension. Anderson achieves a well-paced and steady narrative with exquisitely written dialogue and a safe balance of humour.

Serving as his own director of photography, Anderson’s cinematography is visually stunning, as is the lavish production design and quality costumes.

An elegant and engaging drama, 'Phantom Thread' is undoubtedly one of best films of the year and upcoming award season.

Daniel Day-Lewis won't be seen in future Hollywood films as this is his last, so it is a must-see for fans and movie buffs alike.

'Phantom Thread' is in cinemas now!
