Hollywood is continuing to remake classic films, and ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ is the latest to join this growing list. The film is the fourth adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel following the 1974 film starring Albert Finney, TV film in 2011, and a 2010 episode of Agatha Christie’s 'Poirot'. The 2017 version is under the direction of the talented Kenneth Branagh, who also stars.
When a murder occurs on the train he’s travelling on, Hercule Poirot (Branagh) - a world-renowned detective, must solve the case. But there are a number of passengers who could potentially be the murderer...
'Murder on the Orient Express' features an all-star ensemble cast, including Penelope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Judi Dench, Johnny Depp, Josh Gad, Michelle Pfeiffer and Daisy Ridley. Each actor shines in their respective role and gives a gripping performance.
Under his direction, Branagh ('Henry V', 'Cinderella') manages to pull off an impressive and mesmerising mystery drama film with a touch of humour, whilst starring in the lead role. The visual style is finely detailed, and the cinematography by Haris Zambarloukos is stunning. Beautiful and lavish production design by Jim Clay add to this stylish production, making for an alluring film, and ultimately an enjoyable watch.
A well-made murder mystery film with a superb ensemble cast.
