DC UNIVERSE | 'Justice League' in cinemas now

It’s finally happened. After ten years in the making, 'Justice League' has finally made it to the big screen.

Following a bumpy start in 2016 with 'Batman Vs Superman' and 'Suicide Squad', the DC Extended Universe films seemed doomed; that was, until the success of 'Wonder Woman' earlier this year. The female superhero’s stand-alone film shined hope on the DC franchise, and was the decent comic book film adaptation DC fans sought. But what can fans expect with the release of 'Justice League'?

The film takes place after the events of 'Batman Vs Superman', where the world is mournig the death of Superman (Henry Cavill). Bruce Wayne/Batman (Ben Affleck) enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), to find and recruit a team of metahumans with Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) to save the planet from the catastrophic threat of Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds) and his army of Parademons.

Director Zack Snyder ('Man of Steel', 'Batman Vs Superman') returns to the helm of this epic superhero film. A slight improvement from 'Batman Vs Superman', Snyder makes a good attempt at a superhero movie delivering an action-packed film with a great ensemble cast that works well and shares great on-screen chemistry.

Danny Elfman's musical score is phenomenal. Fans of Tim Burton’s 'Batman' fans will enjoy the music as Elfman uses elements of his '1989 Batman Theme' and John Williams’ “Superman Theme”.

Disappointingly however, Snyder seems more focused on the action than the storyline in this particular filmic offering. The narrative is all over the place, the story muddled with too many characters to focus on at once, and as a result, there is a clear imbalance of screen time throughout.

The loose editing, over-the-top special effects and unnecessary slow motion action scenes may give audiences a headache following the film’s two-hour plot.

Though 'Justice League' misses the mark in terms of its story, special effects and humour, it is a good popcorn movie and a film one can tune out to. It’s action-packed for moviegoers and comic book fans alike, so still one worth watching.

'Justice League' is in cinemas now.
