Grab the popcorn (and wine). 'Girls Night' is in cinemas now!
'Girls Trip' is the story of when four lifelong friends travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival. Sisterhoods are rekindled, wild sides are rediscovered, and there's enough dancing, drinking, brawling, and romancing to make the 'Big Easy' blush.
Before watching 'Girls Trip' (or even just from watching the trailer), you may find yourself wondering, "have I seen this film before?" If you saw 'Rough Night' (released earlier this year, starring Scarlett Johansson), then the answer is probably yes. However, 'Girls Trip' proves to be louder, funnier, and at times almost unwatchable in its hilarity.
The film definitely holds similarities to that of 'The Hangover', 'Bridesmaids' and 'Bad Moms' with its clever scripting and top casting; however, 'Girls Trip' gains new life with genuine performances and onscreen chemistry that can't be forged easily.
Starring fan favourites Queen Latifah and Regina Hall, what holds the film all together though is the chemistry of the four leads. Many films fail due to poor cast chemistry, leaving audiences tense and uncertain about the genuinity of the characters. But with 'Girls Trip,' there's no doubt in the fact that this was a long time coming for "The Flossy Posse".
The script is an unforgettable rollercoaster of humour, firmly stepping past the "don't go there" zone. Despite the colourful language and no-holding-back of their sexualities, 'Girls Trip' won't provide a dull moment, only consistent laughs.
'Girls Trip' is the celebration of womanhood that 'Rough Night' didn't quite capture, and showcases the strength of the friendships we make.
