FUNKO | Top 5 Most Anticipated San Diego Comic-Con Pop! Vinyls
Last week we took a look at our Top 5 most anticipated SDCC exclusive Pops from the first 6 waves of releases. This week, it's the turn of waves 7, 8 and 9. So without further ado, let's get stuck in!
5. Flocked Lorax
If you have never read the book or seen the film then we highly recommend you do so. The 2012 film features an all-star cast (Danny DeVito, Zac Efron, Chris Helms) and has one of the best soundtracks heard in a long time. This Pop is a near perfect translation from page to plastic. His big bushy mustache and welcoming 'hello' makes this for a very adorable character. Add in the fact that he's covered in hair (i.e. flocked) and Funko is once again onto a winner.
4. Flocked Tigger
Continuing the trend of soft furry creatures, Funko is also releasing a flocked version of everyone's favourite bouncy friend, Tigger! This isn't Tigger's first outing in Pop! form. His original release (now vaulted) came out in 2012 and is estimated to be worth around £150! But we here at Gigamov much prefer this new release - not just because he's flocked, but also because the sculpting and facial features look more convincing than his debut piece. Either way, we're sure this will sell out fast too. so happy hunting!
3. Glow in the Dark Jolly Roger
As much as we enjoy collecting Pops of well known characters, we also get excited when Funko create original pieces. Step in Jolly Roger! The original version was released exclusively to Disneyworld Theme Parks as Jolly here is connected with the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' ride. Luckily for us, Funko have decided to re-release him for SDCC, but this time with added Glow! The original sold out rather quickly, and with this having the bonus feature of being a glowing SDCC exclusive, we can only assume it will do the same, if not faster.
2. Glow in the Dark Scare Glow
Much like the trend of flocked Pops, Funko is continuing its glow feature with this next release, and we couldn't think of a more suited character. For those of you unaware of Masters of the Universe lore, Scare Glow was released in 1987 as 'the ghost of Skeletor'. The original figure (which also sees insane prices on secondary markets) featured a fully glow in the dark body and came with his staff and cape. He fast became a fan favourite, and we can see why. Even if you're not aware of who he is, the sculpt and detail is so good that it's bound to be on the top of many collectors wish lists this summer.
1. Luna Lovegood
When you have a universe full of characters so vast like the Potterverse, it's always going to be near impossible to pick a favourite character. Each wizard brings so much to the table that fans may not always feel they get a fair share of the limelight (especially when you're up against Harry, Ron, Snape and Hermione). Thankfully for us, Funko have done us proud and released quite possibly one of the best 'Harry Potter' Pops...ever!
The scene is iconic (as is the performance by Evanna Lynch) and the wardrobe choice (especially those glasses) is unforgettable. Funko has put so much love into this Pop that we 'in box' collectors are going to have to invest in a second just so that we can proudly display it on our desks. The reaction to this Pop! online has been overwhelming, and we can definitely understand why. If you're not able to attend SDCC this year, make friends with someone who is going, because this is an absolute must.
