IN CINEMAS NOW | 'Deadpool 2'
'Deadpool 2' tells the story of foul-mouthed mutant mercenary Wade Wilson (AKA. Deadpool) bringing together a team of fellow mutant rogues to protect a young boy with supernatural abilities from the brutal, time-traveling cyborg, Cable. This sequel began before its predecessor was released, and was confirmed in February of 2016. While the original creative team were quickly confirmed to return in Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and director Tim Miller, it was unfortunate that Miller left the project due to creative differences and was quickly replaced by David Leitch. 'Deadpool 2' made more than $301 million worldwide, making it the tenth highest grossing film of this year, quickly beating the highly anticipated (yet sadly below par) 'Avengers: Infinity War' in its opening weekend at the box office. And as expected, the humour is on point, highlighted in Reynolds, Brolin, and Beetz's characters. While some may see the sequel as the weaker of the two 'Deadpool' films, it’s arguably on par. The comedic value is heft, but doesn’t buckle under pressure as Deadpool continues his journey as the “superhero” we all hate to love (and definitely want as a best friend). No-one can replace Reynolds in the title role, and there’s absolutely no doubt as to his charm. Now cementing his place in the superhero world, this instalment builds upon itself as it becomes more inventive and excessively self aware, setting the bar very high for what superhero films should be aiming for. Some of the more notable moments in the film include a post-credit scene where Deadpool travels back in time to fix real-world mistakes, like 'Green Lantern' (starring Reynolds).
Featuring clever cameos, well-written humour and showcasing that twist on the superhero genre to perfection, 'Deadpool 2' is nothing short of a great, campy, over-the-top superhero-action-comedy that’s just plain all-out crazy.
Full of gravity-and-death defying action sequences that the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) should take notes on, this is one superhero movie not to be missed.
'Deadpool 2' is in cinemas now.
