'American Assassin' an abomination?

'American Assassin' is a story centred on counterterrorism agent, Mitch Rapp. To be quite frank, 'American Assassin' was undoubtedly boring and predictable, despite its quality cast (including Michael Keaton). The film is riddled with cliches, and viewers tend to predict events before they occur.

The fun in the film can only truly be found in protagonist Rapp's (Dylan O'Brien of 'Teen Wolf' and 'Maze Runner') horribly fake beard, while his hair cut leaves you desperately wishing you could jump through the screen to chop it all off.

It could have been so much more, especially as the climax goes out with a fizzle instead of a bang. It's nothing more than another very average Hollywood effort in the mid-year slump. There is no clearer message that films like 'American Assassin' are the reason the box office takings are down in recent years. The film is acceptable to a point where you just have to pass it off as absolutely ridiculous, and not a lot more than background entertainment.

The marketing campaign behind the film was also poor, so much so that going into the film, there is little for audiences to wonder about. Similarly, the trailer lets the film down, leaving potential paying patrons with an unmemorable impression, and unlikely ever to visit the cinema to watch this film.

'American Assassin' barely assassinates one's boredom. Save yourself the cost of a ticket and wait for this one to arrive on your local streaming service. 'American Assassin' is in cinemas now.
