Retrospective | DORIS DAY
It's Monday 3rd April 2017, and Hollywood triple threat Doris Day has just received a unique birthday gift from The Associated Press from Ohio's Office of Vital Statistics: her long lost birth certificate.
It is reported that Ms Day has long estimated her year of birth to be 1924; however, the release of this certificate reveals a 1922 birth, making Ms Day 95 years young today.
Day was quoted as saying "I've always said that age is just a number and I have never paid much attention to birthdays, but it's great to finally know how old I really am!"
Her enormous breadth of work including studio recordings, a television variety show, and countless films and musicals continue to inspire new generations of fans and performers every day.
But with an absence from Hollywood spanning over four decades, why do we still love Doris?
Well, let's take a trip down memory lane, shall we?
'The Windy City' from 'Calamity Jane' (1953)
'Secret Love' from 'Calamity Jane' (1953)
'I'm Not At All in Love' from 'The Pajama Game' (1957)
'It's Magic' from 'Romance on the High Seas' (1948)
'Shaking the Blues Away' from 'Love Me or Leave Me' (1955)
'By the Light of the Silvery Moon' with Gordon MacRae from 'By the Light of the Silvery Moon' (1953)
But her hits don't stop there. Head over to Spotify for the entire recording back catalogue - you'll be amazed at just how much this woman achieved in her career.
What we love is that, unlike stars today, Doris still responds to snail mail - this lucky journalist even received an autographed photograph from Ms Day via post only weeks after sending a gushing fan letter! She still makes time for her fans, showing her gratitude with a personal touch.
With her last onscreen acting credits being 'The Doris Day Show' between 1968-1973, Ms Day has since dedicated her time to her worthwhile charity, Doris Day Animal Foundation.
Leave Doris a birthday message, and donate to the Animal Foundation today!
