SEASON RETURN! 'Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!'

A second season’s blessing on this world...

Produced by Studio Deen, ‘Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!’ 2 jumps right back in where Season One finished off.

Whilst not revolutionary in its storytelling, the first episode is a warm welcome back for existing fans. For audiences who are not yet acquainted with the anime series, it can be confusing; though the creators do attempt to explain lead character Kazuma’s scenario.

The twist to establish this show’s premise is a humorous one – what would a person do if stuck in a video game? Though entertaining, the comedic element can become repetitive. It reprises many familiar jokes that have become recognisable for each character, but thankfully this has been somewhat balanced by new material.

The episode’s conclusion shows promise that the characters will pursue the quest of trying to defeat the Demon King. Interestingly, this is a plotline that was avoided in the first season; however, as this is considered a comedy anime, it is excusable.

Season Two plays similarly to Season One, though improvements are noticeable in many of the scenes - the Guild scene appears weakest in its animation during the orientation.

The voice acting is of a similar quality to the first season, arguably showcasing its potential for a second season run.

Episode One holds good promise that this season will be equally, if not more entertaining than the first season.

SPOILER ALERT!

At the end of the climactic battle seen during the Season One finale, a prosecutor comes in to collect Kazuma for teleporting an explosive that destroys a Lord’s house. At first, many of the members of the Adventurer’s Guild stand up for Kazuma, but when the prosecutor mentions she can arrest anyone she assumes to be involved, his group of supporters quickly dwindle.

Kazuma is soon locked up as the females in his team attempt to get him out. When Kazuma is interrogated by the prosecutor with a magical device that identifies every his lies, all begins to go in his favour as truths are slowly revealed… until he is unable to lie about being an acquaintance of a former member of the Demon King’s Army; this leads to Kazuma being put on trial.

With the trial is all set up, he is comforted in knowing that his friends are there to support him, yet uneasy as they are likely to be inadvertently detrimental to his case. As the trial proceeds, all of Kazuma’s perverted acts and questionable behaviours are put on the table, making him appear guilty. He defends himself when accused of being a member of the Demon King’s Army, and when the magical truth item used during the interrogation doesn’t ding, he is proven innocent.

The judge almost rules in Kazuma’s innocence until the Lord (whose mansion was destroyed) threatens the judge. Darkness then reveals her family crest, showing that she is also a noble member of society - higher than the Lord. She vouches to prove Kazuma’s innocence by offering a favour to the Lord.

As the episode concludes, all seems well until Kazuma’s (and subsequently Aqua and Megumin’s) belongings are taken as payment for the Lord’s destroyed mansion.

Will Kazuma get back what is rightfully his?
